Cuprian Smithsonite - $2000
Tsumeb, Namibia
Miniature, 4 x 4 x 3.5 cm

This smithsonite is just unbelieveably colorful...I have seen no other with this intense forest green color, in such richness. The mound of smithsonite completely covers the gossan and is thus very 3-dimensional, like a ball. it is somewhat translucent in good lighting, and is very thick rather than just a thin coating. The piece has the usual peripheral damage where it was removed from the cavity in which it grew, but just at the base of the knob, aside from one relatively minor bruise on the otherwise pristine display face. Cuprian smith's are rare enough, but one like this is almost unheard of...and I think not priced prohibitively, either.

T74 Cuprian Smithsonite - $900
Tsumeb, Namibia
Miniature, 4 x 3 x 1.5 cm

Glistening, almost "silky", translucent, bright apple-green crystals of smithsonite with a pronounced appearance of curvature to the crystals! This is definitely one of the more unusual habits of cu-smithsonite from Tsumeb, and I have only seen just a few such specimens before. I found one unwieldy larger piece in a collection and was able to trim it up into several nice miniatures. This is not the deepest shade of green, not the sharpest crystals of cu-smithsonite, but this habit IS startlingly beautiful and unique in appearance.

Some damage to the periphery and base of this one, but basically a fine display face with xls to 1.2 cm

T77 Cuprian Smithsonite - $295
Tsumeb, Namibia
Toenail, 3 x 2.5 x 2.25 cm

Glistening, almost "silky", translucent, bright apple-green crystals of smithsonite with a pronounced appearance of curvature to the crystals! This is definitely one of the more unusual habits of cu-smithsonite from Tsumeb, and I have only seen just a few such specimens before. This is not the deepest shade of green, not the sharpest crystals of cu-smithsonite, but this habit IS startlingly beautiful and unique in appearance. A great trim with two large 1.5 cm crystals atop a mound of smaller ones, and a bit of sparkly white dolomite poking through on the right side. Some contact to backside and lower-left, but the two nice crystals display very nicely!

T78 Cuprian Smithsonite - $125

Small Cabinet, 9.5 x 6 x 5.5 cm

A glistening specimen with an incredibly rich coating of sugary, sparkly, bright green cuprian smitshonite xls all over a 3-dimensional matrix! The piece is one of the most artistic and scultural such specimens I've seen, since they are usually rather flattish plates.

T35 Cuprian Smithsonite - $1500
Tsumeb, Namibia
Small Cabinet, 9 x 5 x 4.5 cm

This unusual piece features a cluster of darker-green, well-crystallized smithsonite rising in 2 round humps (3 x 2.5 x 2 cm or so on the taller one) from the middle of an attractive plate of lighter-colored apple-green smithsonite. The contrast is subtle, but aesthetically interesting, and the piece overall is large in size and rich in color.

T39 Cuprian Smithsonite on Dolomite - $3450 (SOLD)
Tsumeb, Namibia
Cabinet, 11 x 7 x 4.5 cm

A remarkable and unusual specimen with discrete isolated crystals of smithsonite dispersed evenly over contrasting snow-white dolomite matrix. This crystal habit and appearance is exceedingly rare, and this is a large and showy specimen to boot. It came from the Marion Stuart Collection via the Sussman Collection.

T102 Cuprian Smithsonite - $450
Tsumeb, Namibia
Miniature, 4 x 3 x 2.5 cm

The large & sharp rhombohedral crystal is the rarest form of cuprian smithsonite from Tsumeb, and the most desirable in my opinion! At 1.3 cm, this miniature has a relatively large crystal for the type, superbly isolated against contrasting matrix.

T-104 Cuprian Smithsonite - $125
Tsumeb, Namibia
Miniature, 4 x 2.5 x 2.5 cm

Small but unusually sharp crystals for cu-smithsonite, which usually forms rhombs, not scalenohedra!

T-105 Cuprian Smithsonite - $700
Tsumeb, Namibia
ex. Dave Mansfield Collection
Miniature, 6 x 4 x 4 cm

This is a gorgeous, bright specimen with lime-green smithsonite crystals of high lustre. On one end, there is a small patch of even more intense green crystals, still smithsonite but of the most electric-green color imaginable. From the collection of South African dealer Sid Pieters' son-in-law.

T31 Cuprian Smithsonite - $295 (SOLD)
Tsumeb, Namibia
Small Miniature, 3.5 x 3 x 2.5 cm

What can I say, I REALLY like the green smithsonites! I have managed to hoard a number over the last few shows and collections, so you'll see a variety below. Still, I much prefer the sharp crystals when possible and this specimen, though small, really presents nicely the sharp, transparent blue-green rhombs to 7mm.
