These big garnets are well known in SA and the attached mica also shows its provenance, as mica is extremely rare, if ever seen, at the KMF.

Hotazel Mine, near Kuruman, South Africa
Thumbnail, 2.2 x 1.4 x 1.1 cm

In the same trend as the N’Chwaning, Hotazel has produced some great specimens. This lovely Rhodo has excellent luster and a very good orange-red color. What sets it apart are the complex multiple vertical faces that parallel the c-axis. Minor damage but on backside. These faces give the piece an ‘art deco’ look, and makes it unusual, attractive, and very desirable. It is even better in person.
